Unable to enable LLDP on windows 2012 R2

Hi,

Anyone successful in using LLDP on a microsoft Windows 2012 R2 Datacenter edition ? When I enable it via

Ethernet card -> Properties -> Client for Microsoft Networks --> Install -> Protocol --> LLDP , I hit the error

"Could not add the requested feature. The error is : the system cannot find the file specified. ".

My system32 does not seem to have the MSLLDP.sys.

Tried to use the install iso and still not able to find it. Any place I can download it from ?

By default the Link-Layer Topology bindings are there for me. If I attempt to do what you did I get the same error.

May I ask why this question is being posted in the Hyper-V forums?

What is it that you are attempting to accomplish?

I need the virtual switch on hyper V to talk LLDP with my physical switch ( a Cisco switch ). The interface is up but unable to get LLDP to come up

When an External Virtual Switch is bound to a physical NIC - all protocols are removed from that physical NIC device except for the virtual switch.

At this point in time that physical NIC becomes no more than a pass through port of the virtual switch.  It passes through all protocols that the VMs ( virtual NICs ) attached to the virtual switch are sending out.

Any modifications of the physical NIC protocol bindings will break the virtual switch - this is not where you would apply such settings.

You would apply your protocol bindings within each OS not at the physical NIC level of the Hyper-V Server itself.

If your Hyper-V Server is sharing the physical NIC with a virtual switch, then you modify the protocol bindings of the virtual NIC that was added to the Hyper-V Server OS.

The Virtual switch uplink connects to the physical external switch and hence I am guessing I need to add the protocol bindings on the virtual NIC that Hyper-V creates.

I tried to enable LLDP on the virtual ethernet interface that is added to the Hyper-V Server. Ran into the exact same problem. From my research it seems MSLLDP.sys is missing from my system32 folder. I don't find it on any of my Windows 2012 R2 servers either.

So, wondering if anyone has successfully used LLDP on windows 2012 R2.
