Hi, We have a server 2008 R2 and out security log in event viewer displays the following message: Event viewer cannot open the event log or custom view. Verify that event log service is running or query is too long. The instance name passed was not recognized as valid by a WMI data provider (4201) I have looked at the following thread and it does not help me at all, it is not relevant to my problem: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverDS/thread/5bd1384d-697f-42e5-ba76-6aae7f8dc101 I have also tried this: Launch Server Manager, select Configuration, WMI Control, Security tab and then reset permissions for all folders.
