Unable to RDP to Windows 2012 Server

I was able to do this previously until something was change on the licensing/remote desktop role.  Do not know what was changed but everything looked okay.  This is a small domain with a single server which is also a DC.

When I go to manage the Server under Remote Desktop Services, I see an error "Remote Desktop Services deployment does not exist...".   When I try to Add Role again the process fails.  Error is: "Post installation configuration process failed".  Session Collect and RemoteApp Program portion are cancelled.  I've tried removing the role but the server will back out of the process during the reboot phase.  So I can't remove the role or add the role AND can't RDP to the server.

Hi,

If the OS version of the server is Windows Server 2012 Datacenter or Windows Server 2012 Standard, please ensure that Servicing Stack Update of September 2013 is installed for Remote Desktop Services role services and Active Directory Domain Services role working on a single server.

Remote Desktop Services role cannot co-exist with AD DS role on Windows Server 2012

If the update is installed but the issue persists, would you recall that when the issue happened? You may check event logs at that time to find possible cause.

When I try to install using PowerShell to import-module remotedesktop, I get an error saying no valid module file was found.  That is why I tried to uninstall it using UI.  The uninstall process will back out at the end when it encounter a problem.

Thanks!

None of these worked.  I have a feeling that if I can uninstall the RDS from the machine and then reinstall, it should fix this problem.  Problem is, removing causes an error.  Reinstalling without removing causes a failure too.  I downloaded the patch but it says it's not applicable on my machine.

The broker is already installed but if I continue the error is about the firewall.  When I turn off the firewall and do the process again it still fails. Because this part fails, the Remote Desktop Web Access and Remote Desktop Host Sessions installs were aborted by the system.

If I go look at the services all the Remote Desktop related services including the Connection Broker are there and running.

Hi,

At this point, if you have a backup of the server, I suggest you restore it.

If there isn't any, I would suggest you contact Microsoft Customer Support and Services where more in-depth investigation can be done so that you would get a more satisfying explanation and solution to this issue.

You may find phone number for your region accordingly from the link below:
