Time delay in server 2008

Hello,

I have a situation where our domain controller is on server 2008 but for couple of days the time is being changed fro 30 minutes to few days and even months now. It resets all of sudden. Time zone is UTC +5. I have also applied the hotfix for time zone issue released for server 2008 R2 in december 2013  here but the problem is not being fixed. That is causing huge problems for overall clients on the domain and they cant login with their domain users.

Can you guys please provide me some solution to resol

Can you clarify exactly what's happening? Are you saying the server keeps losing time, eg it keeps getting further and further behind the correct time, or are you saying that it keeps randomly changing to a different date / time, both forward and back (since you mention it changing by months within a few days)?

Is this a physical or virtual server?

Thanks for the reply.

Environment: ESX 5.1

Vmware:

Virtual Machine: Domain controller, Windows server 2008 R2.

Client: About 200 to 300

Now the situation is when I set the time, it is chnaged back to few minutes, some times few days or even day. Today I observed it was forwarded exact on month. Time and year was correct but month was March. Remember time zone never changes it is only time that is changed initially it was going back but today it went forward as well

Thanks a lot.

Hi

are you sure that the sync option in ESX as been disabled? The vm does not need to sync the time from the hypervisor I would suggest also to setup the time configuration in your forest following this link

Hi,

Your forest root domain and the PDC emulator of your domain should sync there time externally.

If you run this command on your root domain and PDC server. If your root domain is PDC then on that server

W32tm /query /configuration result should be like

NTPServer: time.windows.com or something like ntp2d.mcc.ac.uk etc.

And the rest server and clients in the domain should sync there time to the PDC emulator of your domain

You should see   Type: NT5DS (Local) on server and clients if you run the same command.

Now it looks like your ESXI is creating some issue. I would open ESXI 5.1 go to Configuration tab and Select Time Configuration from left hand side list. Check NTP Client Enabled and click on Options. In option click on NTP Settings and add the IP address of your PDC or root domain server.

Hope this helps :)
