The new Server In Towm
All I can say is wow, and I don't mean windows on windows. I just don't know where to start. In some ways I thought you guys (Microsoft) learned something in the Vista launch...NOT. This is truly painful so let's break it down...Setup - I decided to setup as a guest OS in virtual server, since dell does not support 08 on my servers. i.e. drivers. The setup was great, started it, walked away, came back it was done. Great without all of the extraneous input during install. In the virtual console the mouse had "virtually" no control... ha ha get it.. :-)Finally was able to stumble through and get RDP working and the machine on the domain so that I could get in and get a usable mouse.BTW... Keyboard was unusable on RDP login. So I set the credentials in RDP client to logon for me bypassing the login screen, and keyboard worked fine. (Windows XP SP infinity, RDP Client)Once in recognized, the vista look etc. Was quite surprised at the Click-to-continue (Hello.. Mac / Pc Commercial) thought you would have done something about this annoyance! So i decided to try something simple. Looking at the install, .NET 2, 3, etc. seemed to be present so I copied over one of my .NET apps from another machine and decided to run it. Well, immediate failure. Not to be discouraged, compiling the application can reveal a lot about what may be missing, but alas even compiling failed. Said I needed Administrator access to compile the app... but wait I am the admin... Domain Admin at that. So I noticed a little context menu item that said run as administrator. So I tried that, but got the same results. Checking the "Administrator" group for the machine revealed that indeed Domain Admins we part of this group so I can't imagine why the compile won't work.So.. I decided to utilize the "Feedback" option to, well give feedback, you know, what your reading here. An Inet explorer window pops up and after a few dozen clicks on continue (remember that great inet security feature... it lives!) I see the glorious "Send Feedback" button. Just what I was after... "Click" damn another continue dialog. Finally the feedback page... sort of... I see search, top suggestions, but... where is my feed back opportunity? oh there it is in a little gray area that say I must login with my windows passport oops live ... click on sign in... ahhhh IE advanced bothersome dialog again 3 f'n times (nice chick in the background, oh well I'm married) more click, click, click dialogs then Woohoo I'm In, ready to provide the ultimate... feedback. !@#% "JavaScript required to sign in"... Ahhhh I'm missed the football because Lucy pulled it out from unde my while I was trying to kick the BALL. How do you expect anyone to provide feedback on an new OS when you don't even proved the tools to do so and require techno that's not included in your OS. Screw silverlight (not part of this tirade but really kinda is... straw cammel...) get your !@#% striaght. You can't seriously expect the corporate world to put up with this, wait you do. And OHHH we will, I forgot. The only real OS in town. I forfeit.BTW, I had to submit this with a FireFox Browser.Lee
