I was getting this exact error while trying to install Symantec Backup Exec 12.5 on my shiny, new Dell Poweredge R710 with Windows Server 2008 R2. I had the Broadcom network cards teamed using Broadcom's applet (downloaded from Dell). Once I dissolved the team and configured one nic, I was able to complete my install. I do not know if this will fix anyone else's issue, but I thought I would share that tidbit.

Hi, You can export the following registry key from a working Windows server 2008 64bit system and then import it to your problematic Windows server 2008 64bit system. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msiserver Tim Quan - MSFT That post by Tim is what fixed it for me. Everyone who may have this issue in the future please refer to this post instead of asking for a download. Thanks Tim!

Tim Quan - MSFT Hi Tim, We have similar issue on installing Symantec Backup Exec 2010 System Recovery 2011 on Windows Server 2008 R2 with SP1. The Symantec engineer said the issue is MSi not working properly. I have run "sfc /scannow" but Windows said nothing to fix. Could you please reactive the link so that I can try to if that can fix our issue? Thank you. Justin

Tim, As with all the others I have the same issue with Backup Exec. Symantec says the MSI is bad but everything else works. Can you please repost. Thanks Steve
