The Megabytes free counter

Hi All

Wer are trying to setup a custom monitor that monitors disk space on our servers. Unfortunatley we have been unable to get the default logical disk free monitor to work so ended up creating our own monitor. We set this up using the % Free Space counter and it is working ok. The problem is that as well as evaluating the servers by % we also want to setup megabyte free counters but cannot see how to do this. What is the best way to do this?

1. Do we have to create another monitor using a different counter? If so what is the counter for megabytes free?

2. Is it not possible to "copy" the default Logical Disk Free Space monitor so that we have the % and Mbytes tabs?

Thanks

First of all, windows MP free disk space monitor alert depends on free disk space and % of free disk space on geneating alert. For detail, pls. refer to
http://blogs.technet.com/b/jonathanalmquist/archive/2009/04/04/logical-disk-free-space-monitor.aspx

Additional, if you want to create your own % free disk space and free megabyte monitor, you should create two monitors with 2 different counter.
% free disk space: counter value is "% free space"
megabyte free : counter value is "free Megabytes"

Roger, many thanks for that, will give that "free megabytes" counter a go.

2 other questions that you might be able to answer for us,

1. Why is it not possible to edit the "Logical Disk Free Space" monitor that exists i.e. change the percentage and megabyte thresholds? Is this by design and that you are meant to create overrides for the servers?

2. We have created a few groups but we are unable to target the "Logical Disk Free Space" override at them, they dont appear in the list like they do when we create our own monitor?

Thanks for your help

Hi,

you can edit or disable the monitor directly if you mp is unsealed and you can override the parameter( like enable,%, pool time) of the monitor for sealed MP by creating override MP but not all parameters for a monitor can be override, as override parameters are set in monitor type and it is set for only few parameters.

1. At first, the built-in free disk space monitor, come from windows OS MP, does not allow you to change the percentage and megabyte thresholds directly because Windows OS MP is a sealed MP. The only way you can do is to create an override. For detail information about override, pls. refer to

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh212869.aspx

2. Do you means you can not find your custom group when you select "override for the monitor" -> "For a group" ? OR

Do you means you can not find your custom group when you select "override for the monitor" -> "For all objects of another class" ?
