Telephony Service started then exits Server 2003
Hi All, I have a Sever 2003 SBS SP2 that is having an error with the Telephony Service: The Remote Access Connection Manager service depends on the Telephony service which failed to start because of the following error: The operation completed successfully. Trying to start the Telephony service manually results in the following: "The Telephony Service on Local Computer started then stopped" Not seeing any other errors regarding this service. The server is operating normally but this failure is causing alot of alerts on the monitoring system/event viewer. Thanks in advance!

Remote Access Connection Manager (RasMan) and Telephony (TapiSrv) should be set to Manual startup type and logon as local system account. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc785922(WS.10).aspx Regards, Dave Patrick .... Microsoft Certified Professional Microsoft MVP [Windows]

They already are set to Manual, however the issue still persists. I also checked the registry settings for TapiSrv and they match the entries on another server where Telephony works fine. Thanks for replying.

Are you using RasMan? Any other system event log errors since last boot? Regards, Dave Patrick .... Microsoft Certified Professional Microsoft MVP [Windows]

Hi, From your description, I understand that the Telephony service cannot work normally. To troubleshoot this issue, please check the following points: 1. Verify the dependency services of the Telephony service “Plug and Play” and “Remote Produce Call (RPC)” services are started. 2. If the Log On account we use is “Network Service”? You may also try to use “Local System account” for test purpose. 3. If we manually start the Telephony service, what’s the result? 4. Please perform the following steps to check the registry values: a) Click Start button, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit.exe in the Programs list. b) Locate the following registry subkey, and then click it: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TapiSrv c) In the details pane, right-click ImagePath, and then click Modify. d) In the Value data box, type the following registry value, and then click OK. %SystemRoot%\System32\svchost.exe -k NetworkService You may also consider to import this registry from a working machine. Hi, I've tried the above methods you mentioned and none of them worked: 1. The dependency services are running normally. 2. Logon As set to "Local System Account" 3. Trying to start manually results in the service starting and then exiting. 4. Already tried importing those registry settings from another working machine no luck. Thanks for replying.
