Task Manager VM size on Server 2003 R2 Standard TS
Hi We use Server 2003 R2 Standard as Terminal servers and I was checking the memory usage on one of the Terminal servers, and was wondering what exactly "VM Size" is? For one of our users Outlook had a "Mem usage" of 60MB and the "VM Size" was around 140MB. Does this mean that Outlook is currently only using 60MB but it has actually allocated 140MB? I have also encountered that it was opposite, "Mem usage" using 200MB and "VM Size" was aroung 100MB. I have been searching through Google for a proper discription but can't quit find it, but it might just be me :-)/Lasse

VM Size might be referring to virtual memory size, including data in memory and paged to disk. I think the interpretation here is that 60MB is nonpaged and 80MB is paged to disk. -- Mike Burr

Have you tried running process explorer, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx Sometimes the memory and process info reported is more useful than the memory infor reported by task manager. -- Mike Burr
