TIme to ask another NTP question...
Hi allI have a Win2003R2 domain, and set NTP to sync with an external source (our ISP has a SNTP server so using that). All servers and clients within the domain have synced successfully to our PDC Emulator (configured for NTP syncing). We have no VM systems. My issue that I cannot work out and hoping someone could shed light on this, all systems are 3min 40secs slow. I checked the external NTP server and that shows it is functioning fine. However if I check the time against the talking clock or www.timeanddate.com for our city (Adelaide) and even a gadget from our ISP showing our time is 3min 40sec slow. We do run ISA2006 Standard but there is no other errors to speak of other than a few minutes discrepancy in time. All servers are set to correct timezones etc.Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance...TroySch

So youe mean to say that your PDC is talking to the external resource (your ISP)still cant sync well and is delayed by some minutes. Probabaly you need to force the sync once more with ISP. Just for testing put one more server (facing internet) and try to sync that with the ISP's NTP server (not from your PDC) and see the result.Raj

Hi RajYes PDC is syncing successfully however the time is out by a few minutes. I've forced a resync a couple couple times to try to correct the problem.I have tested on another unit (our PABX), and that reads the same few minutes out. In some of the documentation for NTP setup, it states not to use NTP but rather use NT5DS for and AD environment. could this be causing the issue as we have AD but I have our PDCe pointing to the external NTP source. My only other thought is either our router or switches may be interupting the NTP feed?

How do you do synchronisation between PDC and external time source ?

Normally this is how we do it. We allow PDC to talk to some external time source and then let others machines in the AD sync with PDC.I am not sure if some thing in your DMZ is doing this. Can you test one of your laptop by directly taking it to the internet (by pass your firewall's and all the other devices) and see if it gives you the correct time or eats up three or four minutes.Raj
