System State backup
HI AllUsing a 3rd party app to backup the system components making use of plugin that access the VSS writerThis is on x86The plugin shows adding components but there is one entry in the backup log of this app:Message: 13:32:22 [System State Plugin] Adding files for component System FilesError: 13:33:20 [System State Plugin] Failed to iterate on snapshot volume \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy67\\windows\system32Message: 13:33:26 [System State Plugin] Adding files for component c7d8cbf7-e33c-4476-89fc8afb2e35bf0bThere is no errors relating to VSS in the application log. The system log just shows the VSS service starting (and completing a bit later on when the backup completes)Can anyone suggest what the iterate on snapshot refers too?Is it failure to snapshot to the VSS volume, eg insufficient space or something like that?ThanksJ

Hi JacquesvR, To track down the original volume and shadows copy volume of VSS snapshot, you can try using the following command Vssadmin list shadows Vssadmin list shadowstorage If the storage size for shadow copy is not sufficient, backup could be fail. You can configure the initial size of the shadow copy storage area by using the configurable registry key setting. 1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK. 2. Locate and then click the following key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VolSnap 3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD value. 4. Type MinDiffAreaFileSize, and then press ENTER. 5. On the Edit menu, click Modify. 6. Type the size that you want for the shadow copy storage area, and then click OK. Moreover, we would like to suggest you use windows Server built-in backup utility such as NTBackup or Windows Server Backup feature to take system state backup. Hope it helps.
