System.AccessViolationException was unhandled
I hope I am posting in the right area. I have recently been put in charge ofa new server. (it's our company's first one) We have windows server 2008 enterprise edition, and plan to use the server to run a sql database and manage workgroups. The install and setup of the server was overseen by a veteran tech person who is unfamiler with the 2008 version of Windows Server. "Some of this is new to me," he says. Well, it's all new to me. I was added to a domain.workgroup, and given full permissions. If I am understanding this correctly, I am using the server to authenticate my logon to my local machine. (please forgive the butchered lingo) Since that time I have been completely unable to run ANY of my vb.net applications. I can step through them, but when I just run it in VS I get either "Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt." or my form flashes quick then the program ends. Myfinished and complied apps do not work correctlyeither. Also, now when I open an excel document, I get a dialog box asking for my username.Xp's login screen has changed now as well. I removed my local machine from the domain and I still have the problem and the different login screen. This problem has never appeared before I joined the domain, and nothing else has changed in my code or the files I am using as data.I am going to guess that all of these problems are connected. Perhaps something todo with permissions?Any help you could give in this matter would beGreatly appreciated.Thanks.Luc

Hi, Did you setup a Domain? Which user do you use on your local computer? Is the user a Administrator of local computer? Please also help to collect System Information and screenshot for research. 1. Click Start, click Run, type "msinfo32", press Enter. 2. Click File menu, choose Save button to save a NFO file on Desktop. Please send system information to tfwst@microsoft.com . 3. If there is any error, press Print Screen key on keyboard, click Start->Run, type "mspaint", press Enter. Click Edit menu, choose Paste, click File menu, choose Save button, save the screenshot as a JPEG and send to tfwst@microsoft.com. Thanks.

Terribly sorry. I solved the problem by reinstalling my OS, joining the domain, then installing my software. I have other computers about to join the domain; I will do my best to repeat the conditions, and get you the data you requested. I am very interested in knowing the why, even though I found a 'workaround'. LukeTake it easy, but take it.
