Sysprep Win2008 R2
Hi We need to clone 2 Win2008 R2 virtual machines for testing purposes with following roles installed: - Server A: Win2008 R2 Standard WEB and APP server - Server B: Win2008 R2 with SQL 2008 R2 server Machines are not in a domain, just stand-alone servers (Workgroup). Do I need to run sysprep on cloned virtual machines, or is enoguh just to change hostname and IP? If we need to run sysprep, will all services (IIS, SQL) still running after SYSPREP - GENERALIZATION or do we need to reinstall them? Thank you in advance Miha

You need to provide more information. What are you trying to accomplish? Why do you need to clone these servers? We need exact copy of our production enviroment to test some new funcionality, so we decided to clone existing WWW in SQL server and test this functionalities on them. In that way, we need the same server config as in production environment with all services installed, we will just change hostname and IP - so I am not sure if we need to run Sysprep to create a new SID, because servers are not members of AD

If it is for a test environment, my recommendation is to use a P2V solution. Sysprep is not a cloning solution. What is your solution for cloning the existing system? Anyway, you can use Disk2VHD tool to make virtual server. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/ee656415.aspx Santhosh Sivarajan | MCTS, MCSE (W2K3/W2K/NT4), MCSA (W2K3/W2K/MSG), CCNA, Network+ Houston, TX Blogs - http://blogs.sivarajan.com/ Articles - http://www.sivarajan.com/publications.html Twitter: @santhosh_sivara - http://twitter.com/santhosh_sivara This posting is provided AS IS with no warranties, and confers no rights.
