Sysprep is in Windows Server 2008 R2. Why can not use it? What is interesting in this article, it is not clear for me? It is about WAIK - if I install it in VMs, each expand 1GB :( Robert Stuczynski (Noise) - VirtualStudy.pl: http://VirtualStudy.pl

Hi, can you check if you have any logs from /generalize switch in %WINDIR%\System32\Sysprep or %WINDIR%\System32\Sysprep\Panther please? Maybe there is any useful hint, what could cause such long sysprep'ingRegards, Krzysztof

1.Would you show the ini file? 2. It seems like the sysprep process is waiting for something. Process Monitor may reveal the critical spot. Regards Milos

Milos: 1. what exactly ini file? 2. If you use sysprep you can not use Process monitor - because PM works only in full windows gui.Robert Stuczynski (Noise) - VirtualStudy.pl: http://VirtualStudy.pl

It is typo, right name is sysprep.inf. There may be syntax error that prevents the sysprep process to proceed correctly. Yes, you are right, PM would not "apply". As to the log files. Is it true, that the log file in the %WINDIR%\System32\Sysprep\Panther is not created? In this case there is no trace that could tell us about the failure point. Milos

Milos Have ever you seen sysprep.inf in WinServer 2008R2 (fresh installation)? I have not this file. It is very fresh system - I installed it 1 day ago and not installed anything. Log file- I have never seen it because all time I must break this sysprep process - I thik it take few DAYS! :( Robert Stuczynski (Noise) - VirtualStudy.pl: http://VirtualStudy.pl

WAIK is your friend http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=5753 Prepare answer file in Windows System Image Manager and apply it in your Windows 2008 R2 system. You need not instal WAIK in your targer system, any W 7 workstation will be appropriate for this task. My guess is that the indefinite pause is caused by system waiting for instructions from sysprep.inf. You should add sysprep.inf into the same place where there is sysprep.exe, unless you specify different path. Regards Milos PS: There is a supplement to WAIK (update) http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5188

I looked at the files and there’s no valuable data there. You need to gather the following, you may need to allow the process to progress to collect the logs. C:\windows\panther (and subfolders) C:\windows\system32\sysprep\panther (and subfolders) You can also get a procmon log when running sysprep to see if you are hitting some errors.Sumesh P - Microsoft Online Community Support
