Synchronize time with server workstations
Hello everyone; I have a DC Windows 2003 Standard with 30 workstations on XP SP3, I synchronize the time of the workstations with the server and I followed step by step as described in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816042/e s, however the time on the workstation is not changed and users can change it. I wonder to know, how I can define at GPO workstations update or synchronize the time with the DC and disable the ability for users to change the time, time zone or date. Thanks a lot.

Hello, get away form using net time, since Windows server 2003 w32tm is the command you should use.http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc773263(WS.10).aspxIf the Windows server 2003 is a DC configure it to an external time source if possible or use a router which can also provide the time server option if possible:w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:PEERS /syncfromflags:manual /reliable:yes /update With "PEERS" you can set the time source, either DNS name (time.windows.com) or an ip address from a reliable time source. Here you can find some of them:http://www.pool.ntp.org/On the clients run:w32tm /config /syncfromflags:domhier /update After that run:net stop w32timenet start w32timeMake sure the firewall on the machines has port UDP 123 open as this is needed for time sync. Also make sure that all machines are using ONLY the domain DNS servers on the NIC and not your default gateway or the ISPs DNS server.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
