Subnet prioritisation returns incorrect subnet
Hey Guys, Running a 2k3 domain and DNS servers and i'm attempting to make use of subnet prioritisation. Setup - 3 subnets in physically separate networks on a private WAN 1.0.0.0/22 - dns1.local = 1.0.0.1, proxy1.local = 1.0.0.2 1.0.4.0/23 - dns2.local = 1.0.4.3, proxy2.local = 1.0.4.4 1.0.6.0/23 - dns3.local = 1.0.6.5, proxy3.local = 1.0.6.6 I have an A record set up for the proxy servers - proxy.local that has 1.0.0.2, 1.0.4.4 and 1.0.6.6 Generally the setup works for about 20 minutes or so (clients that is), before the browser starts attempting to use a proxy in a different subnet. ie. Desktop1.local = 1.0.0.10, configured with a proxy of proxy.local will use 1.0.0.2 (correctly) for a while then suddenly stop working (normal browsing patterns - my machine). nslookup shows that proxy.local is returning proxy3.local instead of the 'subnet prioritised' one. Do I need to switch off round robin dns resolution? I'm a bit lost - the only documentation i've been able to local is http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb457118.aspx - and that appears to say that RR and SP co-exist with SP having priority. Perhaps i'm missing something simple in the setup? All theories welcome. Thanks in advance Carl Gherardi

Hi, Please try to disable DNS Round Robin to test. For your reference: Configuring Subnet Prioritization http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc961422.aspx Also run "ipconfig /flushdns" on client machines and run " dnscmd ServerName /clearcache" on DNS server to clear cache and test.
