Storage Manager for SANs MMC Extension Snap-in
I'm running Windows Storage Server 2003 on a HP DL-185 storage device. When I open the server management console and select LUN Managenment, Subsystems or Drives, I receive the following error:Unable to find Virtual Disk Service (VDS) or any VDS hardware providers installed on the computer. VDS and at least one VDS hardware provider must be installed for Storage Managerfor SANs to function. Please check the VDS and VDS hardware providers installation. The VDS service is installed and running. If someone could provide some direction, I'd appreciate it.

Hello Kinny_K,As far as I know, to use Storage Manager for SANs, the server and the storage subsystems nned to meet the following requirements: 1. The Windows Storage serverneed to installed with Storage Manager for SANs and Virtual Disk Service (VDS). 2. The storage subsystems that you want to administer using Storage Manager for SANs must support VDS. For more information about VDS, see Virtual Disk Service Technical Reference at the Microsoft Web site http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=50517 3. The VDS hardware provider for each storage subsystem must be installed on the server. 4. If you want to use Storage Manager for SANs with an iSCSI subsystem, We may need to install Microsoft iSCSI Software Initiator Version 2.0 on the server. For information about how to download and install Microsoft iSCSI Software Initiator Version 2.0, see the Microsoft Web site http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=44352Please refer to the above requirements on that server and then check if the issue still continues.Hope it helps.
