Static IP v6address
I am running WinSer2008. I have tried to set up a static IP address and got some vague support after I posted in three forums.I also get some contradictory information from reading manuals on MSDN. It appears IPv6 has the ability to self-configure. On one of the forums I was told that it is not necessery to configure it at all.I have an app that routinely displays some pertinent information and also I run IpConfig to confirm it. My IPv6 on the machine (Network Card) isfe80::adf7:6f33:8532:bca3 however when I tried to enter it into the settings form it also asked me for DNS servers. I cannot get them anywhere. IPv4 DSN Servers were rejected in the form for IPv6. Some other information I think was also missing. I am not sure but I thinkSubnet Mask was wanted as well.I investigated my machine with WMI classes and found one where IPv6 querieswere extracted but DNS Servers came up empty. Now I am trying to set up aDomain name and I get a warning that a static IP address is missing. I suspect it is IPv6 since I set it up for IPv4 to my Network Card. I do have a static IP address from Comcast but it is hooked up to my cable modem.I think I explained everything. How can I set up a static IPv6?Thanks.AlexB

You can use netsh to configure your IPv6 static address:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc740203.aspxRegards,Salvador Manaois III MCSE MCSA CEH MCITP | Enterprise/Server Admin Bytes & Badz : http://badzmanaois.blogspot.com

I know that. Where do I get the missing values, like DNS Servers? I don't even need to use netsh. I have my GUI for that.I am not quite clear on that but I think I tried to retrieve those values with netsh and came up empty handed. AlexB
