Helllo, Not sure if I am in the right section, but I have a strange problem. I have some user that are having the connection to their shared drive go out every couple of hours. It goes out for about 30 seconds, and then comes back up. I am running a windows server 2003 environment with two DCs. I only have one switch between the computers and the servers. I was able to check it for connectivity problems and it reported no errors. I am really stumped on this one. Has anyone every experienced something like this before. Thanks.

Hi, 1.By default, SMB connection will be disconnected if inactive for a certain period. This is configurable via the server-side Autodisconnect and client side KeepConn registry values. See article 297684 for a description of Autodisconnect, and article 818704 for a Windows 2000 hotfix to make the KeepConn registry value work correctly. 2.If the SMB session is inactive for 15 minutes the server will send a TCP reset to close the connection. Until the Autodisconnect timer is reached, the server will send an NBT keep-alive packet every two minutes. If a client or server application is not written to properly handle network delays, it may terminate the session prior to the default timeout period. Please also test in Safe Mode with Networking or booted with msconfig in diagnostic startup to isolate applications causing the disconnection. 3. If sessions are being disconnected prior to the configured timeout values set with server-side Autodisconnect and client side KeepConn registry values, please also check the NIC card properties and disable any power-save functionality which could be disconnecting the network interface. Thanks Tiger, The SMbs are pretty much always active as there are various programs that are always writing to them through out the day. I was able to resolve the issue. My server has a NIC card with two ports one was active, and the other one was not. I switched to the in active port and disable the old one. After that I have had consistent connectivity. I also changed out the network cord, but I really think the issue was with the NIC. Thanks.
