Something is wrong with my DC'S
Hi guys, For some weird reason, i cannot connect to my Domain controller when i go to start - run - \\servername. first of all, we are talking about a lab enviroment here. The lab contains the following: 2 DC'S 2008 R2. 1 SCCM SERVER - 2008 R2 1 SCOM SERVER - 2008 R2 2 XP MACHINES. 1 WINDOWS SEVEN PRO MACHINE. This is all running on vmware workstation 8. There were no updates to the servers, and i all i can say, the problem has been going on for at least 2 weeks. the weird thing, is that when i try to explore the problematic Domain controller from other server or clients, i'm trying various things, such as... \\server name. \\servername.domainname.local \\ipaddress. Nothing works, and when i run nslookup on the servers and clients, and try to resolve the problematic DC, it's there, every machine can see it. I double check that in the network properties the "File and print sharing" are marked (why on earth would someone remove that). I restarted the server, no result. I checked the Event viewer - nothing special there... Btw, just for the record, in the NIC properties, the IPV6 is not marked on the DC's at all (thought maybe it would be helpfull). I checked the replication on the both DC's and the results are great (i'm running the commands: Repadmin /showrepl and all the tests shows successful results). So, here i am, asking you the experts....WHAT IS THE PROBLEM. Please advise... Best regards, Nahum. Israel.

Hello, Since you are using the IP address and nothing is working then it should not be a name resolution issue. First of all, having IPv6 as disabled is not supported by Microsoft. So, please enable it. Anyway, do you any security software running? If yes, disable them temporary. Disable also the internal firewall. Once done, check results again. Hi Mr X... I've disabled my firewalls on both servers, also i disabled the anti virus i had on the servers (it's microsoft security essentials). When i run the diagnostics on the pronlematic DC, i can see in the network diagonstics that i'm getting an error and i quote: The remote device or resource won't accept the connection. "The device or resource (servername) is not setup to accept connections on port The File and printer sharing (SMB)" Any ideas please, how do take it from here? Best regards, Nahum.

Hello, for starting please upload the following files, so we understand the domain setup: ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt [all DCs] dcdiag /v /c /d /e /s:dcname >c:\dcdiag.txt repadmin /showrepl dc* /verbose /all /intersite >c:\repl.txt ["dc* is a place holder for the starting name of the DCs if they all begin the same (if more then one DC exists)] dnslint /ad /s "DCipaddress" (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321045) ADREPLSTATUS: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30005 can also be exported to file. As the output will become large, DON'T post them into the thread, please use Windows Sky Drive(with open access!) http://explore.live.com/windows-live-skydrive and add the link from it here. Also the /e in dcdiag scans the complete forest, so better run it on COB.Best regards Meinolf Weber MVP, MCP, MCTS Microsoft MVP - Directory Services My Blog: http://msmvps.com/blogs/mweber/ Disclaimer: This posting is provided AS IS with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights.
