Slow/Intermittent Network Browsing Performance
Hi,
I am having an issue with my Windows Server 2008 R2 (64 bit) server. It is a DNS/Domain controller and mostly used for serving files. Issue I have is that my file browsing performance is a hit and miss. I will try to explain a bit.
If I open \\server\Share$ and go down into subfolders a bit all loads quickly. then if I press backspace to go up one level, it stops responding for several seconds before loading that folder. This happens all the time
(3 out of 4?). Also, when saving files from applications, it may save it within a second or may take several minutes before saving files. These are small files (Work Docs etc.)
I have tried with mapped drives as well but still have the same issue. The share they use is hidden share ($). There are 3 client PCs all running Windows 7 (and Domain Members) and they all have the same issue when browsing or saving files. I have connected
these clients over wireless as well as wired (1GBit). All systems are up to date with patches.
Normal copy is typically quick. I can copy several GB file very quickly.
Hardware:
- Dell Server using Two Dual Core Intel XEON 3.0
- 8GB RAM
- 4x 750GB Drives in RAID 5
Thank you for any help.

Hi,
What related Event Error can be found in the Event Viewer?
According to the problem description, this issue can be caused by the Mrxsmb10.sys driver, if the Server Message Block (SMB) protocol is in use.
Based on the current situation, I would like to suggest you download and install the following hotfix to check the result:
You cannot access a remote server that shares files and printers by using the SMB protocol from a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2 or
Windows 7
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2194664
If it does not work, I also would like to suggest you disable SMB Signing by navigating to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanManServer\Parameters]
and modifying the EnableSecuritySignature value to 0.
