Simple networking of 15 computers
I want to maintain a lab of 15 computers, 14 running on Windows XP and 1 (which i want to be server is running on Windows Server 2003). I have cabled all the computers using Ethernet cable and Switch. The cross sign on LAN connection has gone off. Just tell me what to do ahead or how to make settings in Windows Server 2003 to share files, printer and internet.

A cross sign on the lan connection simply indicates that the connection has been disconnected. Check the both sides of the cable (NIC and Switch connection) to make sure the cable hasnt been uplugged. Check the switch port and make sure its still enabled (the port LED should be lit). Inspect the cable to make sure it has not been crimped or cut somewhere. Don't understand this statement, "Just tell me what to do ahead or how to make settings in Windows Server 2003 to share files, printer and internet." <-- it is very vague. Basically your DHCP server must hand out static address of AD server as primary DNS server address so clients can find DC. Then put the ISP's DNS addresses in the forward lookup of your DNS server so clients can find internet. Also make sure your server has static IP address outside of DHCP scope. How To Create an Active Directory Server in Windows Server 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324753 Please post back with any specific questions. Regards, Dave Patrick ....
