Shutdown tracker and third-party apps
We have an issue where sometimes a server shuts down or reboots without human intervention (power outage, crash, etc). With the Shutdown Tracker enabled, you are required to put in a reason code on next logon. This is not an issue if someone logs in. However,
if there is an automated tool, such as NetIQ, or a script that has a scheduled job to do something since that last unplanned shutdown/reboot, the Shutdown Tracker is blokcing it since the tool is not answering why it was previously shutdown. It's expecting
an answer.
Barring disabling the Shutdown Tracker, is there a way for third-party apps to pass on an answer to get by the reason code?
Note: I am aware of using shutdown command line being able to pass on reason codes. Our business is trying to eliminate "more stuff" to automate things, not add another tool to gets these jobs done.
Any ideas?

Hi,
As far as I know, we have to disable Shutdown Tracker t workaround this problem.

OK, thanks
Do you know if there is a way to find out if a computer is stuck in a state where it is pending a reason code on next logon? Maybe we could script a search for these computers before-hand of any NetIQ job, then at least know which ones we will have to logon
manually first.

Hi,
You can query the following Registry key to check if previous shutdown.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Reliability\DirtyShutdown]
This key is set during event log startup. It indicates whether a previous shutdown was expected.
