Should hostnames be in upper or lower case?
Hello, Out of curiosity, should hostnames be written in upper or lower case? or does it not matter? Same question for domain names. HOSTNAME or hostname? FABRIKAM.LOCAL or fabrikam.local?

From a technical perspective, it does not matter. However, the upper case always gives me a sense of agressive tone... Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

It does not matter if you use upper or lower case for either hostname or domain names. Thanks and Regards, Mukesh. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

The main convention that I've seen is that hostnames and domains are lower case where kerb realms are all uppercase. I don't think there is a set standard though, it is a matter of personal/company preference. -- Mike Burr MS Technologies - Development - *nix
