ShellHWDetectionService EventId 7011
Hi all
Currently have a Windows 2003 box (Windows Server 20003 Standard Edition SP2) that is exhibiting some strange symptoms listed below:
-Not responsive. It locks up frequently when trying to access anything on the console i.e. launch the event viewer applet, launch windows explorer, or launch any application
-in the eventlog I get EVENTID 7011
Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for a transaction response from the ShellHW Detection service (e.g.
http://beecherbowers.com/2009/04/30/eventid-7011-timeout-waiting-for-shellhwdetection-service/)
My problem is trying to locate the hardware that has this issue. I cant do a procdump of the shellhwservice as the server is completely unresponsive when logged on locally). Any idea how I could proceed with fixing this server?
My eventlogs are full of this event.
So far I have done a few google & bing searches and it seems to be a Hardware Based issue as various posts have shown.

Hi,
Since there are different messages that can be logged under the same
event ID, can you also post the other information from the events that
you are receiving? Thanks.

Thanks. I have had a look at the website. The error message is generic in nature yes. However the difference comes with the service that is listed. In the details section, the event may describe a number of other services e.g.
Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for a transaction response from the SMTPSVC service
or
Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for a transaction response from the McShield service.
In my case, I only get errors from the ShellHWDetection service. So there should be something related to this service that needs to be sorted. I need help digging down further or ultimately determing what the issue is.

virtualCD drivers can cause the problem.
Please have a look to this article "eventid 7011 timeout waiting for ShellHWDetection service", it is for someone who had the same error:

I alredy looked at that article. I dont have any virtualCD drivers on this server. BTW its role is as a File Server if that helps.
All my old event logs were overwritten by this error and so I cannot correlate with events that happened before it started coming out.

Check that ShellHWDetection service is set to Automatic.
While you are in Services check that Wireless Zero Configuration Service (WZCSVC) is also set to Automatic.
Start > Run > Type in services.msc > Enter ....
