Right now I am installing Server 2008 clean and its painfully slow. By comparison Linux is back up in < 2 hours, no way with Windows server. Windows update blocks setting up roles making it user snarky. Only thing I was able to do was enable remote so I could behead the machine and plod onwards. Server Manager is glacial too. Hello, Windows server 2008 or R2 default installation is roundabout 30 minutes. Never needed longer so i cannot really follow your statement. Also Windows update i had never problems with. Is the machine installed complete from scratch with formatting the hard disk? Please provide complete error messages and event viewer errors so we can follow your problem descriptions.
