Sharepoint KiIlled IIS
Right now I am installing Server 2008 clean and its painfully slow. By comparison Linux is back up in < 2 hours, no way with Windows server.
Windows update blocks setting up roles making it user snarky.
Only thing I was able to do was enable remote so I could behead the machine and plod onwards.
Server Manager is glacial too.

Hello,
Windows server 2008 or R2 default installation is roundabout 30 minutes. Never needed longer so i cannot really follow your statement.
Also Windows update i had never problems with. Is the machine installed complete from scratch with formatting the hard disk?
Please provide complete error messages and event viewer errors so we can follow your problem descriptions. Also screenshots uploaded to Windows Sky drive are helpful to see where you are talking about.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

you should read the setup log files may be they can give you a hint on the subject. Most probably the hard disk or the cable might have issue please try changing a give a shot once again.http://www.virmansec.com/blogs/skhairuddin

I have subsequently replaced my server with a new 64-bit system.
Compatibility problems have disappeared

Because of compatibility issues.
I have resolved the problem with a new server and Server 2008 R2 and SharePoint 2010 which does not exhibit the problems
