Sharepoint 2013 - File Shares Content Sources

When a content source is created for file shares and a full crawl is done, the files that are in the folder are imported to the Sharepoint database or only are imported to the database the metadata obtained?

Another question, after a full crawl the content from the file shares appears in the search as linked files, isn't it?

Thanks

When a file share is crawled the content is indexed in the crawl index and the metadata is added to the metadata database. The files remain where they are in the file share and are not imported into SharePoint although the content is fully indexed.  The NTFS security associated with the files is also added to the index so that search results can be security trimmed.  Finally, search results will contain links to the files in place in the file share.

Hi Paul,

How can we see that metadata. Can that be viewed in the termstore under MMS application?

Thanks,
