SharePoint Connector Patching deployment

When I was going to deploy latest SP connector patching, I was instructed to "Make sure that the directory $FASTSEARCH/var/file_export is empty". both in FAST SharePoint Connector\var and esp\var directories, there is no such file named file_export.

My queries are:

1. What are the roles and importantance of that file.

2. Since it doesnt exist, can i go ahead and proceed to deploy patch without considering that instruction?

Please advice.

Files inder the var directory are usually cached files and can be safely deleted.

The Indexer writes templates to file_export, which are picked up by search-1 in searchctrl, and QRServer in .webcluster. Deleting the file forces original configuration files to propagate through the entire chain.

If the file don't exist, you can try to stop the entire ESP cluster and see if the file will be propagated.
