SharePoint 2013 Advanced Search Page with results scopes/sources

Hi,

We are moving from SharePoint 2010 search to SharePoint 2013 and one of the difference between them is scopes. I understand in 2010 we could define scopes which is now replaced with result sources in 2013.

However, the issue is that we had advanced search pages in 2010 showing scopes checkboxes for the user's to select. How can we get the same functionality in advanced search pages of 2013 using result sources?

We could show the result sources as search verticals in the results page but then in 2010 user's where able to select one ore more scopes using the checkbox, while if we use the search verticals in 2013 it will be limited to one particular result source in 2013 (pls correct me if wrong).

How do we allow the user's to select one or more result sources in 2013?

Is there a work around?

Hi Devendra,

You are right that one search vertical limited to one result source in SharePoint 2013.

So if you want to be able to use more result sources in SharePoint 2013, you need to create more search verticals for different result sources based on your needs.

About how to create custom search verticals:

Thanks Victoria,

Is there some other way that the users can select and see results from one or more result sources in a single results page?

Hi Devendra,

You can create a custom search results page and add more search results web part to the results page.

You can set different result source in the Search Results web part, then different results show in the search results web part.

Remember to edit the Search Box web part to send queries to all the Search Results web part.

Victoria

Ok. I that case, believe there will be two different and independent sets of results with independent refiners as well and in case of 4 result sources it will need to have 4 results web part on the same results page?

However, we still cannot give the user's the option to select multiple resut sources from which they want to see the results?

Hi Devendra,

You are right that 4 result sources need 4 result web parts on the same results page.

However, you can add a custom drop-down menu for the result sources in the page and then hide the other results web parts based on the selection from the drop-down menu in the page programmatically.

Thanks,

Victoria
