Server name as the domain name.
I am an IT Pro dealing with a client who wants to use its server name as their domain name. I haven't done this before. Is this possible? The client has a Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition.

Did they explain why they wanted this? How large is the company? users? DCs?I have never setup a domain and a DC with the same name. I have just never gone down that path. I would recommend something like this:domain: companyname.localDC: servername IE: companynamePDC or whatever your naming falvor is.When setting up a domain it isnt what the requirements are now as much as it is what will they be in a 1 to 5 years.

Active Directory will allow for a computer to have the same name as the NetBIOS name of the domain. Just to prevent any confusion (since we deal with names and not 0s and 1s), I would discourage your client from doing that. Try to encourage your client to establish a naming convention for the devices/computers on the network.
