Server for NFS - Lock Operation Failed Event 10
I am nfs sharing a folder using Server for NFS on Windows 2008 R2. I mount the nfs share on an HP-UX unix workstation. I can see all the files in the mount location on the Unix workstation without a problem. The problem occurs when I try to save a file to the nfs share. The program just hangs when doing a save. I checked the event log on the Windows 2008 R2 server and the log for Services for NFS shows "Event ID 10, Server for NFS". Under the "General" tab the error says, "Lock operation failed" which just keeps repeateing itself in the log. Has anyone else experienced this issue and if so, how did you fix it? Thanks.

Yes this is Event ID: 10, under Servers for NFS. Regards, Brad Have you followed the instructions posted on this site regarding setting up an NFS Share, Users, and permissions on this TechNet Library post? Kind of wierd to get a Lock Operation failure on Windows though. Typically in Unix/Linux the daemon creats a lock file... can you see if there are any other failures in system or security? Yes, I have gone over the guides multiple times. I did some more investigation and I have the ability to copy to the nfs mounted share without an issue. When I am saving data from a CAD software called Catia V4 I see the lock operation failed in the log. The software will hang forcing me to run the "kill" command in Unix.Regards, Brad

Regards, Brad Can you try disabling both firewalls and try again? Also run nfsstat and post the output here. Also, run icacls on the shared folder for your server running the NFS share (Windows Perspective) and then gather the permissions shown from the Linux OS to see what permissions are being conveyed to the Unix host.Steve Kline Microsoft Certified IT Professional: Server Administrator Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist: Active Directory, Network Infrastructure, Application Platform, Windows 7 Microsoft Certified Product Specialist & Network Product Specialist Red Hat Certified System Administrator Microsoft® Community Contributor Award 2011 All opinions expressed on my own behalf and not that of my company.
