Server Role Planning
I wanted a second opinion on what roles I should put on which servers. Here is what I am planning: Server1 o Windows Server 2008 64-bit o Exchange 2007 o Member server Server2 o Windows Server 2008 64-bit o Domain Controller / Global Catalog o DNS Server3 o Windows Server 2008 Core w/ Hyper-v o VirtualServer1 Windows Server 2008 32-bit Secondary Domain Controller Data & Print Server o VirtualServer2 Windows Server 2008 64-bit Exchange 2007 (running local continuous replication) Member Server o Virtual Server3 Windows Server 2008 64-bit SQL 2008 Any advice would be welcomed, whether or not I should add or subtract the amount of servers, or move roles around. Thanks!Ryan

Hi, Generally speaking, the best recommendation should be to contact the Microsoft Consultant who can give you the architecture related info after thorough analysis of your environment. By the way, based on my experience: 1. It is recommend that you keep the Domain Controller on a physical computer(like your Server 2) 2. You may transfer the Server 1 to a Virtual Server. 3. I am not familiar with Exchange, so I don't know why you keep Exchange 2007 (running local continuous replication) in Virtual Server 2. 4. SQL 2008 will need high performance, I recommend that you transfer Virtual Server 3 to Server 1. If your SQL 2008 Server dont need to process too much data, you can keep it in a Virtual Server too. Hi there, Its always advisable to have a opinion which suits your environment which includes many aspects like a) hardware ( switches, firewalls , routers , call managers etc..) b) OS you want to include c) Softwares you use ( application softwares , management softwares etc..) d) Networking aspects ( number of subnets , DMZ zones etc...) so as vincent suggest its advisable to contact microsoft consultant . sainath !analyze
