Server Logon Problems
Hi, I run a network with 25 clients & 5 Servers. I usually control all Servers at a local interface directly with the machines (A simple keyboard and monitor arrangement that allows me to toggle between servers) or by using the 'Remote Desktop Facility' on one of the clients. All was fine until recently when my main administrator password was compromised. Consequently, I changed the said password and I think this may have been the start of my problem, which is as follows: I still have the 'Remote Desktop Facility' for all Servers & I can still locally access 2 of Servers locally (as mentioned in the first paragraph). However, I cannot login to the other Servers at all, locally at the machine????? When I say cannot login, my Domain Admin password (old or new), but more worryingly, they do not accept my local machine administrator passwords? Consequently, I cannot get directly into the machines. Any assistance that could be provided, would be very much appreciated? Yours Fustratedly Jason.

Maybe local administrator passwords were changed when your domain admn password was compromissed. Are you sure those servers were not disjoint from AD? You can create new user add it to Domain Admins group and try to login with that on those servers with problemsWith kind regards Krystian Zieja http://www.projectnenvision.com Follow me on twitter My Blog

when you say main administrator, does this mean a domain admin account? someone with that kind of rights could have tinkered with any account. did you try if you can log in with the local accounts after you reset their password? (assuming this is ad network?) you can remote into the machine if i understand you correct, from there you can open computer management and reset local account passwords. or do you mean you can log on with the domain account remote but not when physically at the machine?

Hi Krystian, I am sure the local admins have not been changed, due to the nature of the environment here. I have no reason to believe that the servers were disconnected from AD. I did create new user as you suggested, but this gave me 'Application failed to initialize properly (0Xc0000022) error and and the logon failed?? Regards Jason.

Yes FZB, I do mean a domain admin account. As previously stated to the last reply, I do not think the person that had the password had any access to the Servers (and therefore no access to AD). (I have checked with the person and do believe him - I have to I suppose!). Yes you are correct, I can login remotely with the domain admin account, so why not at the machine? I am not sure of the consequences should I change the local 'Administrator' account. So I created a account with administrator rights. However, the machine would not let me log on locally with this account.?? UPDATE --- I have subsequently changed the Administrator account password and this also still fails to let me access the machine locally. For some reason it is impossible to connect to the machine locally - I find the unbelievable as I can do to it trough the remote desktop? Any Ideas? Jason
