Server Documentation Help
I've recently been tasked with documenting ALL of our servers and we have quite a bit.
I know there has to be an easier and quicker way that looking up on the servers in ADUC and logging into them manually.
Anyone have a suggestion for a low cost (free) software that will inventory this information?
The info I've been asked to gather is the following:
- Physical or virtual
- If physical - capture the age of the hardware, service tags, and support status
- If virtual - what server is hosting it?
- OS info
- Applications that are running
- Is it a production, test, or development server?
Please list anything else that you find pertinent for server documentation.
Appreciate the help and insight folks. There is always a way...

Hello,

Microsoft SCE / SCCM can do that for you but you have to pay for it.
However, there is no free Microsoft utility which will do that for you but you can see for third party software like OCS Inventory.
Note that it is not easy to get all the needed information from an inventory software but you can get most of them. Of course, there should be additional tasks to do manually to get all information you need.
