Server Console Session
Hi,
I am working to set the idle session limit for Server console session. We have domain controllers installed in various locations and the local IT teams have access to login to DC's. We find that they login to the console sessions and the locks it. They
do not logoff which generates some of the errors. We have already applied the policy to set terminal server idle session limit for Servers.
I am not able to find any way to set limit to the console sessions like TS session. Please let me know if there is any way to achieve this. We have all Windows 2003 Servers.

Hello,
have you tried to work with the GPO settings located under Computer, Policies, Administrative templates, Windows Components, Remote Desktop services, Remote Desktop hosts, Session time limites and here "Terminate session when time limits are reached"?
But as that is not a real Directory service question you may ask here about:

The above is about the time for terminal server sessions which I have already configured. I need to disconnect idle server console sessions. The Servers are in remote locations and the IT team members there login to the console of the server and work. They
do not take RDP session. After the work they keep the user logged into the console of the server and locks it.
I need to disconnect/logoff those sessions.

From the servers in question, configure following
local policy.
Open Terminal Services Configuration. (Run -> cmd -> tscc.msc)
In the console tree, click Connections.
In the details pane, right-click the connection for which you want to modify time-out settings, and then click Properties.
On the Sessions tab, above End a disconnected session, select the Override user settings check box. This allows you to configure time-out settings for
the connection.
Configure the following time-out settings as appropriate:
In End a disconnected session, select the maximum amount of time that a disconnected session remains on the server. When the time limit is reached, the disconnected session ends. When a session ends, it is permanently deleted
from the server. Select Never to allow disconnected sessions to remain on the server indefinitely.
In Active session limit, select the maximum amount of time that a user's session can remain active on the server. When the time limit is reached, either the user is disconnected from the session or the session ends. When a
session ends, it is permanently deleted from the server. Select Never to allow the session to continue indefinitely.
In Idle session limit, select the maximum amount of time that an idle session (a session without client activity) remains on the server. When the time limit is reached, either the user is disconnected from the session or the
session ends. When a session ends, it is permanently deleted from the server. Select Never to allow idle sessions to remain on the server indefinitely.

Hi,
It is only showing RDP-TCP which will change the settings for RDP sessions but not for server console session. For RDP session I have already configured Group Policy and its working fine.

Hi Sukhwin08,
As you said, the idle time disconnect sessions policy setting are not apply to console session. As far as I know, we cannot set the idle time for console session.
In order to logoff the session, we need to login to the machine locally or remotely as an administrator and kick them off. If we RDP a new console session, we can directly logoff the previous console session. If it is a normal RDP session, we can run the following
command to logoff the console session.
Note: must as an administrator
At command prompt, run
Logoff 0 and press Enter. The console session (session 0) will be log off. Hope it helps.
