Server 2008r2 installation failure
I'm trying to install Windows on this PowerEdge server. I get through the installation up until the reboot. When it tries to get into Windows, I get the error:
File: \$ldr$
Status 0xc000000f
I've tried booted from the DVD again and tried Startup Restore and "Bootrec /RebuildBcd" from the command prompt. Neither worked.
On the WBM screen, if I hit Enter to continue, I can choose "Window Server 2008 R2" and get to the desktop, but when I reboot, I'm thrown back into the boot manager error screen.
What gives? Thanks.
Update: To clarify, when I hit Enter to continue, I go back into the normal installation process (e.g. back installation screen -> "Completing installation..." -> "...preparing for first use..." -> change password -> Desktop
Update 2: It may not be related, but once I get to the desktop and enter my activation key, I get the error: 0x80072ee2

Thanks, but I don't have a KMS server so following those steps results in the key being installed, but not activated.

Did you complete the installation?
Can you log into the server? Santhosh Sivarajan | MCTS, MCSE (W2K3/W2K/NT4), MCSA (W2K3/W2K/MSG), CCNA, Network+ Houston, TX

Hi,
What’s the result if you use the disk to install the system on another computer?
What’s the result if you use another Windows Server 2008 R2 disk to install the system?
Did you format the drive first?
Why not input the product key during the installation?

Santhosh, I sorta completed the installation. As I noted above, every time I reboot the server, I am prompted to finish the installation, but can get past the prompt and log into Windows.
Tim, I don't have another computer on which to install Server 2008r2, but I used two Server installation disks (downloaded separately) and created a fresh RAID virtual disk so I know it was blank. Also, I don't recall being prompted to enter the product
key during installation.
Thanks.

Hi,
Thank you for the reply.
I suggest formatting the drive and reinstalling the system without installing Raid Controller to test the result first. If the issue disappears, then
format the drive and reinstall the system and Raid Controller. If the issue appears again, we can infer this issue is related to the Raid Controller.
If the issue persists after reinstalling the system without installing Raid Controller, then I suggest downloading and installing Windows Server 2008
R2 Evaluation media from the following site to test the result.

Hi,
Thank you for the reply.
Then I suggest formatting the drive and reinstalling the system with Raid Controller. If the issue still occurs, format the drive and reinstall the system
without Raid Controller. If the issue disappears, we can infer this issue is related to Raid Controller. Otherwise, I suggest trying the Windows Server 2008 R2 media from the following site:

I had to delete the virtual disk and reinstall Windows. The process proceeded as normal and I'm activated. Thanks.
