Server 2008 thin client compatibility
Good afternoon, I work for the IT department in a local schooldistrict. Recently, we had the opportunity to attend forums in Las Vegas, where there was a school district representiative who was using Sever 2008 to operate a thin client environment. They had said that they can get up to 50-75 computers per server, that number would be fantastic for my school district. We are looking into this as a solution to our our aging, and incredibly expensive, desktop computers. However, we were previously (less than13months ago) an all linux environment, and migrated to 2003 servers. We are not quite sure where to focus our research, does 2008 Standard offer this option? I hear mention of terminal services, is that what we would be looking for, if so, is that integrated with 2008 Standard? Any point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you -Mike Tucker

Mike, This technology is indeed called Terminal Services. It has been around since Windows NT4 Terminal Server Edition and it has gotten better on the way. If you want to take a look at the Windows Server 2008 version of Terminal Services I suggest you take a look at this page andwatch this webcast. Ifyou feel you need more informationafter this I suggest you eitherask question in the dedicated Windows Server 2008 Terminal Services forum, which might get answered more quickly and more insightful than in this general forum.
