Server 2008 r2 on NAS
I have a NAS that was shipped with Storage Server 2008 (not R2 version). I want to take advantage of the r2 features and enhanced DFS functionality, can i just upgrade to windows server 2008 r2, or will this cause issues since this is on a NAS.

To 2008 R2 ? I don’t think so. Here is the supported upgrade path:

Also, please refer to the following blog regarding Storage Server 2008 R2:

“You can do a fresh install and continue to use the same volumes, but you cannot do an in-place upgrade to maintain applications and settings. Some OEMs will support migrating a server to a newer version

As Syed said, you can try to contact computer manufacturer to see if they can help upgrade to WSS 2008 R2. Some features will not be provided in Windows 2008 R2 standard version so you will need to make sure if there is any needed features will be removed.Shaon Shan |TechNet Subscriber Support in forum |If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com
