Server 2008 memory useage
Enterprise, 64-bit.Task manager shows:Total: 4094Cached: 2601Free: 79This doesn't seem right, somehow. If my reported useage is 1.8 gb, why only 79 mb free? Thanks,Dean

Hi Dean, The Physical Memory table, contains three entries measured in megabytes (MB). The Total entry shows the amount of RAM installed in the system. The Cached entry indicates the amount of physical memory used recently for system resources. This memory will remain in the cache in case the system resources are needed again, but it's available should other operations need it. The Free entry indicates the amount of memory that is currently not being used or does not contain useful information. Some people assume that the goal of memory management is to leave as much memory free as possible. (That attitude is especially prevalent among those who spent a long time working with the notoriously resource-challenged Windows 95/98/Me family.) In fact, for best performance your goal should be to make maximum use of RAM. Empty RAM does you no good. Windows can swap data in and out of RAM very quickly, so if memory is free, the cache manager tries to fill it up with as much data as possible.
