Server 2008 Standard Options?
Hi,
Can someone please advise me what to do in this scenario?
My Current setup is for a small business. I have two server that run Server 2003 Enterprise Edition. One acts as a terminal server/DataServer, and the other box acts as a Domain Controller. It's time to upgrade.
We are an insurance agency and our Agency Management System will not be complaint with 64bit technology until Q1 of 2011. I am thinking that maybe I can get by by purchasing Server 2008 Standard Edition 64 bit and creating a virtual terminal server
(32 Bit) inside that platform. In reading notes it doesn't sound like a good idea to use SBS 2008 as a terminal server and furthermore this option isn't even remotely supported by our Agency Software. My question is - Can this be done? Is
there something special I need to buy? I currently have a spec'd out T117 Dell ready to order but I just want to make sure I have my bases covered.
I'll also have to order another server to continue to act as the domain controller.'
Am I correct to assume that the new way is I don't need CAL's for the terminal server and the software such as office? It looks as though if I Purchase 5 Cals for Server 2008 that Office would automatically work for up to 5 connections also.
I had someome mention that I could use Zenserver (which is free) but it looks like that wouldn't be compatible with windows. Is there something similar for windows?
Thanks in advance.
