Server 2008 R2 roaming profile using Window XP clients problem with outlook.pst and application data
I am trying to set up Windows Server 2008 R2 and running into problems with the roaming profile not getting all of the data from the Windows XP clients. The user profile and my documents seem to be the ony files that are saved from the XP client
to the server. Any application data such as Outlook.pst is not roaming (or loading onto different XP client computers) when the user logs into a different computer. How can I fix this issue?

Hi,
I would like to confirm the following questions:
1.
What are the locations of the files which cannot be synced?
2.
Can the data sync with other operating systems?
3.
What related event error can you read in Event Viewer?
By default, the Appdata\Local and Appdata\LocalLow folders and all their subfolders like the History, Temp, and Temporary Internet Files folders are
excluded from the user’s roaming profile.
In addition, please also check if the following Group Policy is enabled to exclude some directories in roaming profile.
User Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\User Profiles\Exclude directories in roaming profile
For more information, please refer to the following Microsoft KB articles:

All computers (clients) that will use this server when it is up will be Windows XP SP3.
Windws Server was chosen since the office is using Microsoft software and assumed that the newest Windows Server (only available) would provide an easy solution for users to share hardware.
One thing I did was that I created users in the active domaine before I figured out how to create and apply the roaming profile to the users. From everything I am finding about Server 2008 R2 is that it has a default to easily integrate Windows Vista
and up , and only targets minimal files from older Windows clients (profile and My Documents files).
The location of the files on the Windows XP client are C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\outlook\outlook.pst, which is the default location when setting up outlook on the Windows XP client from the client computer.
After I set up the outlook account at one client computer logout and login to a different client computer (as the same user) and start Outlook 2003 an error comes up about not finding the outlook.pst file in the folder location above.
Only operating system being used is Windows XP at this time and Server 2008 R2. It will roam the profile and individual settings and any files on the desktop or My Documents.
I cannot find any associated errors on the server regarding what I am trying to accomplish. Just some at server start-up. Which correct themselves
My goal for this server is to be able to have users sit at any computer (which have the same hardware and software) and view thier profile screen as they have left it with all programs having the same settings for default files. Also I want all large
files and all user folders to stay on the server unknowingly (or sent back to the server when the user logout) to the user so it can be backed up to prevent data loss from client computer hardware failure and operating system corruption and viruses.

I am trying to setup Windows XP (only) computers (clients) to work on the ONLY AVAILABLE WINDOWS SERVER off the shelf which is Server 2008 R2 without having to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional unless it is given to me for free, am not loaded with
money to go buy it, I spent my money on server 2008 R2 assuming it will work to create an offce network. I am sure that there is a solution to this problem since I am sure many corporations are using Windows XP with Server 2008 R2 with roaming profiles.
I need to match the default file locaton from Windows XP used for roaming profiles to the Windows 2008 server. Because these folder locations are different on the XP client and 2008 server I cannot go to any XP computer, login as a user and
work with an outlook account that was set up on a different computer. Windows server does not include the user application files location in the roaming profile for an XP computer.
I wish that Microsoft explained that "Windows Server 2008 R2 will not fully operate with Windows XP" either on the website or the CD box when I did my research.
I understand:
Windows 7 is structured C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook
Windows XP is structred C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
How can I create the Windows XP folder locations above to be copied for a roaming profile onto Server 2008 R2 using the XP folder layout?

Well it seems that I cannot do this unless:
I change the script that keeps running that creates the excluded folders in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon:ExcludeProfileDirs
and ntuser. boo!
I purchase exchange server and point outlook to the exchange server. boo!
Change the default .pst location on client computers into a directory that roams or is located in an home folder on the server. boo!
Write a logout script to copy the files from the deault location and check file integrity to the server location before continuing the logout command. boo!
Thanks for your time,
