Server 2008 R2 In Place Upgrade
Hi I am detailing a network upgrade project and would like a question answered about the In Place Upgrade from 2008 to 2008 R2. The server that I want to upgrade holds numerous functions. File Server, Backup Exec 2010, Antivirus Admin Console, HYPER V (One VM), and Printers. The print server is a very important function as all us admins know its scary to not have users printing. So I guess my question is will I have to recreate my printers after the upgrade? Will I have to migrate BackupExec and AV before upgrading? Hyper V I am not worried about as I can just backup the VHD. Also my files are on a seprate RAID. Will I have issues with this as well? Thanks and any information will be useful.Sgarvie IT Guy

Hello, for any software NOT belonging to Microsoft please refer to there support pages or forum, especially Backup Exec or your AV solution. For pure Microsoft migration you can use the following step by step documentations, expand the + in the left pane for all available roles: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd365353(WS.10).aspxBest regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

Hello, In addition to Meinolf. You can do a in-place to R2 if your current server is Windows 2008 64-bit edition. If your current server isn't 64-bit then you won't be able to install R2 you would have to do a clean install of Windows 2008 R2 64-bit edition. Also check migration path. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/migration-paths.aspx Thanks.
