Server 2008 R2: dcpromo fails because of dynamic IP addresses - changing to static ones does not help
I added the AD DS role to my Windows Server 2008 R2 installation and ran dcpromo... The installation process stopped in between because of dynamic IP addresses. I went into the LAN adapter's Properties, and changed the IPv6 address to a static one. (I've disabled IPv4.) After rebooting dcpromo still refuses to go past the point where it checks for dynamic IP addresses. It seems not to recognize the static one I chose. What's wrong? What can I do now to continue creating a Domain? Any help is appreciated. Axel Dahmen www.axeldahmen.de PS: I've installed Windows Server 2008 R2 in a VMWare environment. For networking I chose Host-only in VMWare Workstation and installed Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard. Hi, The issue occurs because only Global Unicast IPv6 addresses are considered as an equivalent for static IPv4 addresses. Unique Local Addresses (FC00::/7) are not static IP address. Please assign a Global Unicast address to the server to resolve the issue. Great, thanks for this valuable information! I've just downloaded the documentation and try to get into it! Thank you!

I dont know about that. I set my DC (virtual VM) with a Unique Local address and Dcpromo process completed without a problem. As stated in another topic, i cannot install a DHCPv6 Role anyway

Only because it was not mentioned here I will also add that if you have multiple NICs in the system, you must either assign an IP address to all active protocols of all enabled interfaces or disable the interface to avoid this issue.
