I am having some issues with Server 2008 R2 w/SP1. Let me begin by saying I am highly inexperienced with both Server 2008 and Server/Client networks. I am currently taking classes and hope to one day become an Network Admin.. Though based
on the difficulties I'm having implementing a Server/Client network in my own home, I feel as though I have a LONG way to go. Any help with the below issues would be greatly appreciated:
I have a dedicated PC running Server 2008 RC2 w/SP1 and all updates. As of yesterday I have established and new forest/domain and enabled Active Directory to control Users/Computers. I also have a test workstation with Win7 Ultimate
w/SP1 and all updates on this domain. Last night, I was able to log into the domain with a User I added to AD on my DS. It worked great. Today, after changing absolutely and completely NOTHING at all ( I know this because I reached my goal of logging into
a domain and shut both the laptop and server down for the night.) I am prompted with this problem trying to log into the domain this morning from my laptop: "The security database on the server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship."
After being unable to join the domain, ( and also before I had installed updates for the server) I decided to install updates. So I did. Oh boy.
Upon restarting the server as required for the 40 updates since the release of SP1, I am now prompted with the same login issue under mydomain/Administrator account. As of now I have degressed more than the starting point of all
of this. I don't understand why this error occurs, and on top of that, I find it incredible to believe that after years of Server 2008 being on the market that this is still an occurring and limiting issue. There is not a solution (that I can find) for this
scenario. I am at a complete loss, am utterly sick of trying to troubleshoot an error that has 17 different 'solutions' that don't work for ths situation, of which is now inapplicable because I can't even access the Server.
What is my next step? Re-install Server 2008? Burn my PC? Switch career paths? Sorry. I am frustrated at how far backwards this entire 'Murphy'-like situation has presented itself. I would have been happier if this happened initially trying to establish
a DS, which was incredibly simple, not after the fact. Fail MS.
