Server 2008 Install fails - Storport.sys not found
Hi all.Been searching high and low, but so far have not found a solution.Basically I am unable to install server 2008 at all on my home pc (new whitebox build).Motherboard: Gigabyte EP35-DS3RBios: F3e (latest)Memory: 2GB Kingmax 1 stickNOTHING overclockedMemory tests multiple times clean, no errors. The pc boots off the install DVD but before it even gets to the initial setup screen to choose the disk or partition, it bluescreens and complains about storport.sys not found.I am using an Original Microsoft supplied pressed DVD, NO scratches or fingermarks.I tried 64bit version and 32 bit version.I tried web edition.I tried Vista64 bit.None of the above worked. The only OS's that will install is XP32 , Vista32 and XP64.My research showed 2 or 3 cases similar to this and it seems that the storport.sys file included does not like my SATA controller. I tried removing ALL SATA disks by disconnecting them and only using a IDE drive, but it still fails. So far it looks like I'm stuck, but this why I'm posting, can you help?ThanksAdrian

Hi Adrian, I would like to provide the following suggestions: 1. Run Windows Memory Diagnostic tool: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=50362 2. Unplug all unnecessary devices such as network card, sound card and USB external drives before the installation. 3. Update your BIOS to the latest version. 4. Update your DVD ROM firmware. If possible, try another DVD ROM in a different brand. 5. Download storport.sys from the following site and save it to a USB flash drive in the root directory of the media. Insert the USB flash drive and boot from Windows Server 2008 DVD. Once the disk selection page appears, click Load Driver and then follow the instructions. 6. If there is a system existing on the computer, you can copy the contents of the Windows Server 2008 DVD to a folder on the hard drive and attempt an upgrade installation or parallel installation. 7. You can download the trial version of Windows Server 2008 and install it to test if the problem continues. The trial version can be downloaded from the following link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/cc137233.aspx Hope it helps. Tim Quan - MSFT
