Server 2008 Install Problems
I am tying to install a complementary copy of Windows Sever 2008 Enterprise on a spare workstation at home. The machine previously ran Windows XP Professional on it for about 3 years with no problems. The workstation is home built machine with an Athlon 2800+ processor with an ASUS MB and 1.5 GB memory. The OS installed OK, but would spontaniously reboot after a few minutes.VIA Safe Mode I have trace the problem to Windows Update. The system is stable with all other services running until I enable or try running Update. It then instantly resets (just like I pressed the rest button) and reboot like normal.I vaguely remember the machine doing the same thing when I first installed XP Pro on it, but I can't remember what I did to fix it. I think it was a driver problem for the SATA (this was one if the first boards to come out with SATA support). The HDs on this system are SATA, the DVDs (2 RW drives) are IDE.I've tried looking on the net for similar problems, but can get no hint what to try next. Any ideas?Tony...

hi there, the problem you are experiencing is much of a hardware driver problem rather than OS , as you said this issue occured even when you initially installed windows xp , so can you please confirm that you have all the drivers updated ?also you can use boot.ini switch to check what are the drivers which are getting loaded during the boot time. with which you can easily eliminate the possible cause also try with SATA vendor to check if they have released a latest version of driver sainath

Hi Tony,
Please make sure you have installed all the latest drivers for your hardware devices.
If the issue persists, this system reboot issue is a kernel mode crash issue.
To troubleshoot this kind of kernel crash issue, we may need to debug the crashed system dump. Unfortunately, debugging is beyond what we can do in the forum. A suggestion would be to contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support (CSS) via telephone so that a dedicated Support Professional can assist with your request. Please be advised that contacting phone support will be a charged call.
To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a look at the web site listed below:

I hope the problem will be resolved soon. Thank you for your time and cooperation!
