Kicks them off of what? File shares or something else? I always like to start with the system event log for trouble shooting. Regards, Dave Patrick .... Microsoft Certified Professional Microsoft MVP [Windows]

The server disconects all workstations at 5:15 PM each day. Does not matter which programs they are using. They then have to relog onto the server and all is working again untill the next day. The server is used to store data files that are being shared by all workstations. I.E. Quickbooks.

I'd check the event logs both client and server-side for clues. Regards, Dave Patrick .... Microsoft Certified Professional Microsoft MVP [Windows]

Hi, Please describe the symptom more detail. When did the issue begin to occur? If recently, have you installed software, hardware or updates before the issue occurred? When “disconnects”, did you see any error or message on the clients or on the server? How did you know the disconnects occurs, such as unable to save or read data from the server? If so, any errors? As Dave mentioned, please check Event Log on both client and server side first. If any errors or clues are found, please paste the errors here? Please also boot the file server in Clean Boot mode as a test: Boot into Clean Boot environment ----------------------------------- 1. Click "Start", click “Run” and type "msconfig" to start the System Configuration Utility. 2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click Disable All (if it is not gray). 3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK". 4. Restart your computer. If the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the box and click "OK". Does the “disconnects” issue occur in this mode? Thanks. Do you have a backup running which closes open files perhaps? Might it not be the server at all. I have seen something similar in a heavy industrial company where when they switch their huge machines on and off it interferes with the power network. If perhaps the network switch is located on the same power network as the machinery you could get the switch resetting itself, result in client disconnections. Is their a UPS on the switch? My server which has Windows 2003 server installed kicks all of my client computers off at the same time each day. Does anyone know how to stop this from happening? Thanks........... That's a pretty strange one... could be a kerberos purge scheduled at 5:15PM every day. Can you check scheduled tasks and run the at command by itself to see if anything is scheduled at 5:15 each day? There's a ton of reasons this could happen... might be good to run a packet sniffer tool on the Domain Controller to find out why. Even though you work for the company, get some CYA and ask the "Upper Management" or an executive there for authorization to run packet sniffing software on the domain controller to find out why this could be happening. Get written permission from SOMEONE with AUTHORITY to authorize your use of sniffing tools on your network. Once you gather the authorization, sniff for traffic to and from client computers for about 2 minutes solid starting at 5:14. Try to disect the captured traffic at 5:16PM to see what happened and if there's any useful information in that capture to determine what could be a cause or if it supports the "unknown" kerberos messages. http://wiki.wireshark.org/Kerberos Secondly, is Server 2003 Resource Kit tools downloaded? Some of their tools may be helpful coming soon here once the scope of the issue is narrowed down. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=9d467a69-57ff-4ae7-96ee-b18c4790cffd&displaylang=en Steve Kline Microsoft Certified IT Professional: Server Administrator Microsoft Certified Product Specialist Microsoft Certified Network Product Specialist Red Hat Certified System Administrator This posting is "as is" without warranties and confers no rights.
