Server 2003 Standard DFS Config
Hey everyone,
I am running a server 2003 standard that is acting as a backup domain controller or secondary to be moved at a second branch for DR purposes. I want to implement DFS and am a little confused on a few things and looking for some help or tips.
I somewhat understand what the dfs root target it and how to create it, but am confused on how it works. In my example I have all of the shared folders on one server. If I want this info stored on both servers, do you copy the shared folder
and paste it into a new folder on my backup DC and create a link between the two? How does this replicate to keep the data the same on both servers? I didn't see a way to schedule any replication on DFS in Server 2003 standard.
Second question, if I want users at branch 2 to logon to their romaning profiles from the DC located at branch 2, how do I configure this?
Thanks

We do not use Server 2003 R2, only the R1 edition.

See this article:
How FRS Works
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc758169(WS.10).aspx
To replicate files to another computer, you can either copy files to there before enable replication or directly enable with no file on the second computer. If files are copied, FRS will scan and replicate changed files only. This can reduce the initial
replication time.
1. After initial replication, "primary server" is removed, then any change made on one computer will be replicated to the other one. If same file is changed on both side, the file changed later will get replicated.
2. If users are in 2 different sites, the server in same site will be provided to user as first optional.Shaon Shan |TechNet Subscriber Support in forum |If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com
