Server 2003 R2 - server can ping client but the client cannot ping server

I want to setup a terminal server on server 2003. I connect the server an client to one unmanaged switch. I ping client from terminal server and successful. But when i ping server from client, it "request time out". so then i cannot Remote desktop connection to the server.

What is ipconfig output of both client and server. Provide it and tracert -d output for both please. Also what hardware devices are placed between them?

2 ideas come to mind:

1) the server has its windows firewall active, which means that the server can ping the client (outgoing trafic) but the client cannot ping the server because that would be incoming traffic.

2) the client and server have different subnet masks.
