Server 2003 Internet Access
I have a machine running server 2003 sp2 and a dlink wireless card on a small home network. The other machines can see it and access its file system, so it has internal network connectivity. For at least a year or so after I first set it
up it could get out to the internet. For a few months now it hasnt been able to, either in IE or when I ping google (which times out). So amoung other things its not download patches. What has been happening - and I have no idea if this is the
cause of the problem - is that sometimes after Ive rebooted it Ill get a dialog that there is a conflicting ip address on the network, which I havent been able to locate. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can trouble shoot this? Im thinking of
upgrading to 2008, but I want to solve this first. The machine has 2 ip's as Ive used it as a web server.
http://localhost works fine.
Thanks very much, Mark

Hi,
Thanks for the post.
How come you assigned two IP addresses to one NIC on Windows Server 2003?
We may configure multiple IPs, in different IP subnets on top of the same physical NIC; however, personally I don't recommend assign multiple IP addresses to one NIC, as it may cause some Name Resolution issue or network connection issue.
Thanks,

Why two ips: so in IIS I could differentiate my test web sites by ip (with at least one of them using an ssl certificate in the future). This is just a test server, I dont think there is any reason for multiple nics.
Do you think I should remove the extra ips and see if that makes a difference?
Thanks much

Hi,
Thanks for the update.
At this time, we need to collect the MPSReport for further research.
1. Download proper MPS Report tool from the website below.
Microsoft Product Support Reports
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=CEBF3C7C-7CA5-408F-88B7-F9C79B7306C0&displaylang=en
2. Double-click to run it, if requirement is not met, please follow the wizard to download and install them. After that, click Next, when the "Select the diagnostics you want to run" page appears, select "General", “Internet and Networking”, “Business
Networks”, “Server Components”, click Next.
3. After collecting all log files, choose "Save the results", choose a folder to save <Computername>MPSReports.cab file.
For your convenience, I have created a workspace for you. You can upload the information files to the following link. (Please choose "Send Files to Microsoft")
